By the time you kick the bucket, metaphorically of course, can you say that you have lived your life as you have wanted? Are there things that you feel like you missed out on? Will you have any regrets?
We are all familiar with the concept of having a bucket list. In movies, we usually see this centered around a character who is not expected to live long. It has always made me think, why wait that long? Isn't it much better if you give yourself time to accomplish these activities? Why does the movie character always need a life threatening push to start doing it? This inspired me to create a bucket list sooner than later.
Why do you need one?
Most of the time, the first thing you think about for a bucket list is travel. I want to visit the Pyramids in Egypt or I want to see the Great Wall of China. But travel is not the only thing you want in life. The main motivation for me on why a bucket list makes sense is because I do not want to have regrets. So a bucket list gives me things to do that improves myself, and my everyday actions for the better. When the time does come that I need to kick the bucket, as they say, then I will do so knowing I lived great.
Tips for creating the best bucket list
One of the reasons I am advocating you to start with your list early is because it takes time. Take the time to fully find what makes you happy. Explore yourself, look into your thoughts, feelings, and likes. In short, know yourself a little more. Your likes will change as you get older, so make your list a living document. Revise it as you seem fit, and incorporate what the many like that you have.
Lastly, share your list with others. If you are not comfortable in sharing it, I urge you to try with a close few. This really helps you with 2 things. First of all, they can help give you more ideas. And second, it pushes you to actually accomplish the list. You want to be accountable with what you say, and it is added motivation for you to proceed and live the list.
